Remote work in Tenerife · rural cottage in El Tanque
300 Mbps WiFi, desk with Mount Teide view, real village silence. The alternative to the noisy coworking for long weeks of deep focus.
There are two ways of working remotely from Tenerife. The obvious one: rent a flat in the south (Las Américas, Costa Adeje) and fall into a coworking-coffee-coworking loop not very different from staying in Madrid or Berlin.
The other way: come here. Rural village at 760 m altitude, serious WiFi, no traffic, no noise, no people. You work 9 am-2 pm, eat light, go for a 30-minute walk, work 4 pm-7 pm, dinner on the terrace, sleep. That’s what many nomads are looking for without knowing how to name it: deep focus.
Who comes here to work
- Software engineers who need long cycles of distraction-free focus (backend, ML, infra).
- Writers, journalists, academic researchers who come 2-4 weeks to finish a project.
- Designers and product managers with heavy Zoom calendars who need silence between meetings.
- Founders and independent consultants between projects, in strategic-reset mode.
The “party + beach + Instagram” profile generally doesn’t fit here — that goes to the south. **What fits here is “code + book + local food
- stars at night”**.
The actual setup
WiFi and connection
- Movistar symmetric fibre 300/300 Mbps, all houses. Typical ping to Madrid 30 ms, Frankfurt 45 ms, US East 110 ms.
- Good for:
- 4K Zoom/Meet/Teams video calls (tested)
- Real-time screen sharing
- Corporate VPN (tested: Cisco AnyConnect, OpenVPN, WireGuard)
- Cloud backup concurrent with normal use
- Parallel 4K streaming
- Not good for: crypto mining, hosting a public server from the house (dynamic IP). Anything else: plenty.
Desk and ergonomics
| House | Workspace |
|---|---|
| Casa Taoro | Dedicated desk in main bedroom, straight-back chair |
| Casa Güimar | Work table in living room with Mount Teide view |
| Casa Abona | Dining table adaptable for 8 h work |
| Casa Acentejo | Dining table adaptable |
If you need external monitor, ergonomic chair, standing desk: tell us at booking and we source it from Garachico’s coworking or buy it directly (we charge cost). For monthly stays this matters a lot.
Sound
- Quiet village at night, no traffic after 10 pm.
- Morning: church bells (7:30 am, noon, 7:30 pm) and distant village dogs.
- No construction, no bars, no through-traffic.
- For headphone calls — no problem. For podcast recording or video with external mic: stone-interior houses have good acoustics (Casa Abona especially).
Lighting
Important for video. All houses have large windows facing S/E = natural light in morning and early afternoon. For video in UTC PM hours (which falls at sunset here), light goes warm. If you record a lot, consider external LED ring (bring or borrow).
The typical day
07:30 Coffee on the terrace, first Teide light
08:00-09:30 Deep block 1 (no meetings, no Slack)
09:30-10:00 Breakfast
10:00-13:00 Calls / collaborative code
13:00-14:30 Lunch + walk to Lomo Molino (3 min)
14:30-17:30 Deep block 2
17:30-19:00 Short walk or read in the garden
19:00-20:00 Home dinner or pizzeria
20:30+ Reading / stars / early sleep
This is the rhythm monthly guests find. Significantly higher productivity per hour than urban office — several guests have confirmed this in writing.

For nomads with the Digital Nomad Visa: we help with the residency certificate (if you register at El Tanque town hall) — useful for the Consular Office or Immigration application. No cost, just a request we make to the town hall.
Digital Nomad Visa — quick facts
- Applicable law: Law 14/2013, Section 5, amended 2023.
- Who can apply: employee of a non-Spanish company (min. 80 % income from outside Spain) or self-employed with mostly non-Spanish clients.
- Income requirements: ~2,760 €/month (200 % SMI 2026).
- Duration: 1 year renewable up to 5 + possible citizenship.
- Reduced personal tax: up to 24 % first bracket (vs 47 % standard tax residency) for 6 years.
- Process: at consulate (before coming) or here in Tenerife (Immigration Office Santa Cruz).
Notes: we’re not tax advisers — for income tax / social security specifics talk to a gestor specialised in the Canaries.
What it’s NOT for
- Large teams hot-desking daily — we sleep 14 people total. If you need a 30-person off-site, not us.
- Heavy corporate events with banqueting — we do intimate events, not corporate banquets.
- Need for guaranteed symmetric 1 Gbps — we have real 300/300 but speed varies. If your work is 4K constant uploads, consider a dedicated office in La Laguna.
The real argument
Working remotely from a rural cottage in El Tanque isn’t “vacation with a laptop”. It’s finding a place where your brain can do a 3-hour block without anyone interrupting. In 2026, that’s worth more than a latte with artistic foam.
Book a month — automatic discounts from 7 nights. Casa Taoro and Casa Güimar recommended for deep work with intense meeting schedules.

Frequently asked
FAQ
What's the real WiFi speed at La Paredita?
300 Mbps down / 300 Mbps up on symmetric fibre (Movistar, not the older DSL of some traditional houses). Verified by speedtest from the four houses. Good for group video calls, screen sharing, large transfers. If you work with real-time cloud backup, it'll work without stress.
Is there a desk or only a dining table?
Casa Taoro has a dedicated desk in the main bedroom. Casa Güimar has a separate work table in the living room with Mount Teide view. Casa Abona and Casa Acentejo have a dining table suitable for 8-hour work — not ergonomic chair but straight back. If you need ergonomic chair or extra monitor, mention at booking and we'll source one.
Do you accept digital nomads with the Spanish work visa?
Yes. Spain's Digital Nomad Visa (Law 14/2013) allows 1-5 year stays with remote work for non-Spanish companies. Our monthly stays are ideal for the first month — we help with the residency certificate if you need it for the application. Discounts 20-30 % for 28+ night stays.
Is there a coworking nearby or do I have to go to Santa Cruz?
No coworking in El Tanque itself. In Garachico (15 min) there are 2 cafés with WiFi and outlets working as informal coworking. In Puerto de la Cruz (45 min) there are 3 serious coworkings. In La Laguna (50 min) is the biggest scene. Realistically most remote-work guests don't use coworking — they come here precisely for the silence.
Do you have international plug adapters?
Yes. Type G (UK), Type A (USA/Japan) and Type C (Europe) adapters available on request. Spain uses Type F (Schuko) compatible with Type C. If you bring a UK→EU adapter you're sorted. Voltage 230V / 50Hz.
