Where to eat in northern Tenerife from La Paredita
The village pizzeria, the valley guachinches, the Garachico fish market. What we order when we eat out, away from the house.
Eating out, on this side of Tenerife, isn’t about choosing a restaurant. It’s about choosing the moment. We list the places with real life that we know first-hand — the ones we order from when our friends come.
In the village · walking distance from La Paredita
Pizzería La Albahaca
Fri-Sun · El Tanque · 3 min walk
Sourdough, wood oven, thin Neapolitan-style base. Short menu, small venue, only open three days — book 1-2 days ahead for a weekend table. Italian-owned and run. Order the capricciosa and a Tropical beer.
Plaza bar-café
Daily · El Tanque · 5 min walk
Not for a memorable dinner — for a mid-afternoon beer with a steak sandwich after coming up from Garachico. Local, no pretension, the village retirees gather here. If you want to see real northern Tenerife life, this is it.
Guachinches in the valley
Guachinches sit on farm estates, outside the village. You need a car. They open only in season (roughly October to May) and hours change every year — always confirm by phone before going.
Guachinche Los Tamarcos
Upper El Tanque · 7 min drive · Friday and Saturday only
Old-style goat, garden potatoes, white wine from the estate. No website — the contact passes word-of-mouth and we give it to you on arrival.
Guachinche La Pasera
La Guancha · 20 min drive · Thursday to Sunday
Better known and more crowded. House speciality: rabbit in salmorejo and carne fiesta. Booking essential on winter weekends.
If you can only go to one guachinche, go to the first. If you have two free dinners, go to both — they’re different experiences.
Garachico · 15 min drive
Restaurante El Caletón
Next to the natural pools · daily except Tuesday
Catch of the day, Atlantic view, terrace next to the volcanic pools. More touristy than the previous options, but the fish quality and the location justify it once. Book an outdoor table.
Pescadería Cofradía
Garachico harbour · daily · mornings only
Not a restaurant — the fishermen’s guild. You’d come here to cook at La Paredita: parrotfish, sea bream, comber, all fresh, fair-priced. Arrive before 11 am because they close.
Icod de los Vinos · 15 min drive
Casa Egon
Daily · Icod centre
Historic pastry shop. The chocolate with churros or a cortado after visiting the Millennial Dragon Tree is a classic that needs no justification. The shop opened in 1920.
What we take home
2 minutes from the houses, supermarket and bakery. If you want to cook at La Paredita, we suggest:
- Cheese: smoked cheese from La Palma, goat cheese from Tegueste
- Wine: red from Valle de La Orotava or white listán from Garachico
- Cured meat: Teror chorizo, sweet Canarian black pudding
- Fruit: local papaya and banana, mango in season
The village supermarket has most of that. For a finer selection, Bodega Tenerife in Icod (15 min) has the best Canarian wine list of the north.
If you want to come and try all this (recommended for at least 4 nights), book one of our houses directly with us. Fairer for you, fairer for us.

Frequently asked
FAQ
What is a guachinche?
It's a family-run Canarian eatery, usually on a vineyard estate. They serve their own wine harvest and a short menu of local produce. They open only in season (October to May, roughly) and often only a few days a week. Always book — they're small.
Is there a supermarket near La Paredita?
Yes. El Tanque centre (200 m walking) has a supermarket and a bakery. For a big shop, Icod de los Vinos (15 min drive) has Mercadona and Spar.
Can I walk to any restaurant?
Pizzería La Albahaca is 3 minutes on foot. The rest require a car.
Are there vegetarian or vegan options?
La Albahaca has several vegetarian pizzas. In Garachico, El Caletón has a good vegetarian menu. Guachinches are almost always meat-heavy — warn them when booking.
